Yoshiko's Six Eating Tips for Beauty Yoshikoの美容食生活6か条

Until my mid 30's, my weight was pretty stable despite of that I was always a good eater and did almost no exercise.  After that I started gaining weight and then had difficulty to lose weight.  I almost gave up losing weight, blaming on my age.  When I got serious with losing weight four years ago, I started cutting carbohydrate and going to gym.  When I felt really starved, I ate food after all, and I gained back the weight I lost.  After the three years, I lost only 10 pounds.  Last spring, I reconsidered my diet strategy and asked myself, "Will I be satisfied with merely losing weight?"  My answer was "No!"  I wanted to lose weight and at the same time, I wanted to improve my skin.  After I did extensive research, I created Yoshiko's Six Eating Tips for Beauty.  After that, I lost 16 pounds in one year and then lost few more pounds and my current weight is the same to the one I had in my 20's!  Yes, this is slow weight loss, but I feel that my body has been transferred to the one which would gain less weight and be easier to lose weight and less worry about rebound than just cutting carbohydrate.  Many of my friends have asked me, "How did you lose weight?" so I here introduce the six important elements of Yoshiko's Six Eating Tips for Beauty!

1) Eat fresh fruits before a meal.
The power of enzyme in fresh fruits would help to digest the food we eat afterward.  It is said to be ideal if we eat fresh fruits 20 to 30 minutes before we have a meal in order to utilize the power of enzyme.  I have eaten various fruits such as grapefruit, kiwi, pineapple, strawberry, apple, grape, blueberry, watermelon, banana, and persimmon.  Regarding the amount of the fruits, for example, one third of a grapefruit or one small kiwi seems to be good to me.

Some people are concerned about that fruits cool our body down and/or fruits contain a lot of sugar.  If we try to eat food which warm our body up, such as ginger, onion, garlic, and nuts and also spend good amount of time in a bathtub, I don't think we would have to worry about cooling our body down due to eating fruits.  On the other hand, if we spend too much time in air conditioned room and take only shower all the time, there is no point to avoid fruits in order not to cool our body down.  I have been eating fruits more than ever before in my life since I started Yoshiko's Six Eating Tips for Beauty, but I don't feel I have a poor circulation; I used to suffer from sensitivity to cold temperatures 10 to 20 years ago.  Yet I try not to eat chilled fruits; I try to take them out from my refrigerator in advance.  Regarding sugar, didn't your mother say to you when you were a child, "Don't eat that sweet before dinner!  You won't be able to eat meals!"  In another word, if you eat little something sweet before a meal, you will feel of fullness with lighter volume in the meal and then you will be able to lose weight as a result.  Besides I eat fruits before a meal, I use fruits in a meal occasionally, and I otherwise eat fruits and sweets only once in a while.

2) Increase the number of chewing when I eat food.
When I chew food as many times as possible, I will feel of fullness with lighter volume of food and as a result, I will be able to lose weight.

3) Try to eat dinner early.
When I eat dinner later, there will be a chance I will gain weight.  But sometimes, it is difficult for me to eat dinner early.  In that case, I think about what and how much I would eat; for example, I may skip rice and eat vegetables only.

4) Eat according to the schedule of the day.
For example, if I plan to walk around here and there all day long, I would eat well.  However, when I plan to stay on computer all day long and eat as much as the day I go out all day, don't you think there is a chance I would gain weight?  When I plan to stay on computer most of the day, my breakfast is often like this: yogurt with granola, fruits, walnuts, and honey.

5) Try to decrease carbohydrate.
I have decreased the volume of rice, bread, and pasta.  By eating fresh fruits before the meal, even when you decrease the volume of carbohydrate, you will feel of fullness.

6) Moderate exercise matters.
I cannot rely on just diet when I efficiently want to lose weight.  Moderate level of exercise on regular basis is very important for me to loose weight.

Regarding the effect to my skin, it is hard to say to be honest, as I rarely cannot go to sleep from 10:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m. when it is said to be important for skin.  However, there is one story I can tell you.  Last fall, my friend asked me to be a monitor for a new skincare brand and one of them was a facial soap.  When I tried it, my skin became very stiff and I felt as if the soap was taking all the moisture from my face and I stopped using the soap in three days.  However, when I ran out of my cleansing product this past spring, I nervously used the soap and then I was very surprised that I had no problem and was able to use the soap very comfortably!  I wonder if that means that the moisture of my skin has increased compared to the last fall due to my beauty food.
