Tilefish

I have been very busy this week for my work as a journalist.  I have not been able to implement "Yoshiko's Six Eating Tips for Beauty"( see this week, as I have been out all day every day with sleeping for about four hours each night.  Especially, during the time I was covering the National Retail Federation's Convention, I was eating donuts and sandwiches there as those were only food available when I had very little time to eat.  As a result, I gained weight!  OMG!  That made me realize how my method has been important for me to maintain my weight!  From today, I went back to my style of eating!

This morning, in the local green market, tilefishes looked very fresh, therefore I bought a piece.  Tilefish is known to contain relatively good amount of protein as well as Vitamin B-12.  According to this article,, Vitamin B-12 helps maintain a healthy digestive system!  That is what I especially need right now!  This article also stated that Vitamin B-12 is essential for healthy skin, hair, and nails.
This is the dish I prepared!  I first seasoned the tilefish with salt and pepper.  I then sautéed sliced almonds and garlics with butter.  I added the tilefish in the frying pan and put the almonds and garlic on the top of the fish.  I then put red and yellow grape tomatoes and Brussels sprouts on the sides of the fish, and added olive oil, salt, pepper and then roasted them in the oven.
I think this looks very pretty, but chopped parsley can be added like this as well.  Almonds are rich in Vitamin E which has very strong antioxidant power, therefore I have been trying to eat almonds.  These crunchy almonds sautéed with butter and then roasted, were really good combination with the tilefish!

Rosemary and Walnuts Bread

This morning, it started snowing all of sudden.  In a short period of time, the local road became like this!
Although, I have been living in suburb for 10 years, I still don't have confidence in driving.  While I stayed at home, I decided to bake a bread which contained rosemary and walnuts.  I try to minimize to take carbohydrate in order to avoid gaining weight.  But I thought putting ingredients which had beauty benefits into carbohydrate may be a good idea.  I wanted to bake a bread with generous aroma of rosemary!  So, this is the bread I baked!
I used this recipe,, though I put more rosemary than it was suggested.  This was when the dough was raising.
The sliced breads were like these.  It was sooooo delicious!!!  It was so tasty without putting anything, but it was also great to put olive oil on.  Both rosemary and olive oil are rich in Vitamin E and walnuts are rich in Omega-3 fatty acids as well as polyphenol; these all have antioxidant power!
I put a bunch of rosemary in olive oil, and then I used the oil not only for putting on the breads, but also for brushing the loaf pan.  My kitchen was filled with the aroma of rosemary and olive oil, and the taste of the bread was great and that made me very happy!  By the time the bread was baked, the snow has stopped.

Kale and Chickpea Soup

This morning, it was 6.8 degrees Fahrenheit (minus 14 degrees Celsius)!  Brrr!
There is a brook in our yard, and the surface was icy.
There were many black ices here and there on the sides of roads in my neighborhood.  Dangerous!
It was such a cold day again, I prepared kale and chickpea soup!  I put onions, garlic, ginger, and curry powder which would make you feel warm.  As I wanted to make it pretty green, I put lots of kale leaves!  I placed chopped black olives and sliced almonds on the top!  Both of them are rich in Vitamin E!  The color contrast is very pretty and it was delicious!
I also made hummus with the leftover of the chickpeas and put generous amount of Vitamin E rich rosemary here!

Pork with Mustard Sauce and Roasted Vegetables

It was cold today, too!  In such a cold weather, I wanted to eat a lot of roasted vegetables.  I roasted carrots, yams, onions first with generous amount of rosemary as well as salt, pepper, and olive oil.  The carrots were from the local green market and a yam was organic, therefore I roasted them without peeling the skins.  I later added Brussels sprouts and celeries.  When they were done, I mixed black olives and chopped parsley into them!  They look very pretty!  The carrots were particularly sweet, and I felt full as I included yams.
I served these vegetables with pork chop with Dijon sauce.  Regarding this pork dish, I have been using this recipe, for many years.  This is one of my favorite pork dishes and I have been making this few times a year.
The recipe suggests to place chops on a bed of sauce, but I think the sauce can be put on the top of the pork like this as well.
Pork is a great resource of Vitamin B-1, and Vitamin B-1 is known to help to break down carbohydrates and fats.  According to this article,, mustard can speed up one's metabolism.  It is also rich in antioxidants, and could stimulate hair growth!  According to this article., mustard oil which made from mustard seeds would be helpful for hair loss treatment.  This article says, "studies show that hair loss is caused by lack of zinc and selenium and mustard oil has high level of these two."  I have not seen mustard oil, but next time I see it, I may want to try it.

Porgy

A Happy New Year!  I wish all the best to all the people who are reading this blog and I would appreciate for your continued support toward YOSHIKOlicious Beauty this year!  This morning it was 1.4 degrees Fahrenheit ( minus 17 degrees Celsius) in New York!  We had snow from Thursday through Friday and my area was like this yesterday.
The local green market has been indoor since a couple weeks ago due to the cold weather.
During winter, the fish vendor has relatively fewer choices than other seasons.  Too bad!  This morning, I chose porgies.  The vendor told me,"porgy is like a snapper."  He said it was sashimi quality.  In Japan, snappers are relatively luxurious fishes, but a porgy was affordably priced.  Porgies or snappers are known to contain relatively low fat and good amount of protein.
I pan-fried porgies and served the each one on vegetables.  I seasoned the fishes with salt and pepper, and then lightly coated them with flour.  Then I pan-fried them with olive oil and butter until the each side got crispy and golden-brown.  Regarding the vegetables, I lightly roasted Brussels sprouts, red bell peppers, and grape tomatoes.  Then, sautéed them with chopped garlic, rosemary, parsley as well as chick peas, and added little bit lemon juice at last.
The vegetables looked like this before I placed the fish on the top.  As I mixed chick peas, I felt full when I finished eating this without a piece of bread.  They also look pretty, don't they?  They were so delicious and had a lot of Vitamin C!
